Dingle Bay

(New words by The Mersey Wreckers)

(With acknowledgement and apologies to Galway Bay)

1. If you ever go across the sea to Liverpool

Then maybe at the closing of your day

You will see the moon rise over Garston gasworks

And watch the sun go down on Dingle bay.

     2. Just to see again the ferries on the Mersey

The cars on William Brown Street in a jam

And to sit beside yer judy in the Scala

Then get her bevvied in the Legs of Man.

     3. There’s a fella standing opposite the Adelphi

He stands there all day long, he’s in his prime

But I think he’ll have to go and get some clothes on

Or they won’t let him in at opening time

      4. Oh you’ll hear the singin’ in the pub each evening

They think they’re at the Phil‘, they’re really grand

And you’ll see the kid who sits outside the boozer

With a conny-onny butty in ‘is hand.

      5. Oh the Liver Birds on high look down on Liverpool

Their wings spread wide they have a perfect view

And it’s lucky for the crowds down at the Pier Head

They never do what all the pigeons do!

      6. You may see the tunnels underneath the Mersey

There’s one for trains and two for motorcars

And the carry people to and from The Wirral

Where they’re posh and speak of g & t’s and pars.

       7. You’ll see galleries of Art and two cathedrals

The Albert Dock, Three Graces there they stand

But the memory that you will always savour

Is the welcome when a scouser shakes your hand.

      8. If you ever go across the sea to Liverpool

Then maybe at the closing of your day

You will see the moon rise over Garston gasworks

And watch the sun go down on Dingle bay.
